Having started my own business during a recession in 2011, people often ask me when the best time to start is!
The truth is there is no such thing as a perfect time to start – it’s a matter of choosing the right time for YOU. It could be as a result of a redundancy, a lifestyle change like pregnancy/maternity or a house move/ relocation. Perhaps the time just feels right…. you want to manage your own day rather than being a slave to your boss or the grind of the daily commute.
There’s only so much planning, dreaming and outlining you can do before you just have to take the plunge and go for it and I speak to very few business owners who wished they had never jumped into entrepreneurship…. most wish they had done it sooner!
I started my Busylizzy journey in 2011. As a new mum, I knew I wanted more for myself and fellow parents on maternity leave so I set about doing just that and created a club where our first baby and mummy fitness classes took place. I made a million mistakes…. some very expensive ones too but learnt from every SINGLE one of them!
Franchising Busylizzy in 2014 has enabled me to share my dream of running my own business around my family with other parents also seeking the magical work/life balance. I’ve built a supportive head office team who train, nurture and share our industry know-how (remember all those mistakes I made), invested in smart branding and tech/automation to help Busylizzy business owners attract, service and keep their customers.
It’s certainly not been an easy ride and quite scary at times, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
As we nod goodbye to 2021, I feel blessed to be surrounded by an awesome head office team and franchise family. We have all shared the difficult times together over the last 20 months but somehow we are a stronger business and team for it – picking up national awards, new club launches and supporting thousands of new and expectant parents.
Whatever 2022 has in store for you, take control of it. If now is the time to step out and be your own boss, grab it with two hands and jump in!
